Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan is an important and sacred temple of Chiang Mai, with a history of over 600 years. Its highlights include the Naga staircase, featuring two grand seven-headed serpents stretching along all 306 steps, and the golden chedi in Lanna style, which enshrines relics of the Buddha. There is also a statue of Khruba Srivichai, the “Saint of Lanna,” who pioneered the construction of the road up to Doi Suthep. At the temple grounds, visitors can enjoy a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the city of Chiang Mai, making it one of the most beautiful and popular spots.
Wat Phalat is located on the way up Doi Suthep. It is nestled in a very peaceful and shady forest, surrounded by nature. The architecture is beautifully done in the Burmese style. A small stream with a waterfall also runs through the temple grounds. The highlight of Wat Phalat is its pagoda, which was built by Burmese artisans in the style of Kruba Srivichai.
Wat Phra That Doi Kham is a significant temple in Chiang Mai, over 1,300 years old. He has also brought incredible luck to people who play the lottery. The temple also features a scenic viewpoint that offers a beautiful panoramic view of Chiang Mai city.
The Hmong community of Ban Doi Pui, located in the Suthep sub-district, consists of the Blue Hmong or Green Hmong ethnic group. Wat Umong (Tunnel Temple) or Suan Phutthatham is located on Suthep Road. It was built during the reign of King Mangrai around the year 1839 B.E. (Buddhist Era), which is about 700 years ago. Later, King Kue Na had the tunnels built here for the Venerable Maha Thera Chan to use for meditation. The interior walls have multiple interconnected passageways and also contain ancient murals.
The highlight of Wat Rong Khun is the ordination hall, decorated in pure white and adorned with sparkling glass that creates a unique and exquisite look, especially the mythical creatures above the hall and the murals inside the ordination hall.
Wat Rong Suea Ten is a temple known for its outstanding architecture, sculpture, painting, and contemporary Thai art. This unique and distinctive charm attracts tourists who feel they must visit it at least once.
This temple is different from others because its architecture is a blend of Chinese and Lanna styles, as seen in the "Phop Chok Tham Chedi" and the "Giant White Guanyin Statue." Therefore, if you visit Chiang Rai and want to see a unique and beautiful temple, you must come to Wat Huay Pla Kang.
